What time of year is best for a wedding? Mar 25

Its spring and love is in the air.  The birds return to nest, the trees leaf out, and the ice cream truck once again starts its neighborhood visits.

It is also the time of year that bridal couples start making plans for weddings.  In certain parts of the hemisphere it is much more pleasant to have a spring, summer or even autumn wedding.   No one wants to contend with snow, sleet, mud and slush.  Especially on the happiest day of their life.

That is where we have it so nice here with the beach wedding in the Virgin Islands.  What can I say after 10 years here I love it.

I love being a wedding planner and wedding officiate it just is so much fun to help couples start a new beginning.   I love not having to worry about the weather for a wedding.

The temperature varies about 10 degrees from winter to summer. Enough to let you know when summer is in session.

We, just like in the main land, celebrate the change of seasons, birds returning from the south, whales swimming past us on their way north, trees blooming buds for new mangos and iguanas getting all lovey with each other.

This brings me to the topic of this blog.  Brides do not limit your wedding plans to spring, summer or autum.   Winter here in the U.S Virgin islands is a great time to celebrate you wedding.

Guest enjoy the warm sun, they love the break for all of cold and snow or ice.

Christmas down here is one of my favorite times of year to have a wedding.

Cruises are abundant with stops in St.Thomas long enough for you and guest to enjoy the whole day of celebrating your wedding.  Not only will you get the clear blue clear sky, turquoise water and warm sun but you will also enjoy the holiday season by experiencing it in a different culture and custom.

We still decorate as you all do up north.  One look at the town square in St. Thomas from last holiday season says it all. The festival of lights is just as bright and beautiful as in the states if not more so.

Making for a great season to get married and have a happy holiday .

When to Hire a Wedding Planner Nov 10

I have just attended a wedding as a helper for a photographer I know.

The couple was arriving aboard a cruise ship. Their plan was to have a ceremony followed by cake and champagne.   The venue was a beautiful tropical garden setting which eight inches of rain the previous day, had made the grounds wet and soggy.

The Wedding was scheduled to begin at 11 am.

What the couple didn’t know was that their cruise ship line stays on Eastern Standard Time.

The Island is on Atlantic Standard Time an hour earlier.

What should have been a relaxing morning getting ready, turned into a series of frantic calls to vendors changing the time of the wedding.

What the couple didn’t know was that the transportation they reserved to move guest from the ship to the venue was not large enough to carry 15 guest and 3 handicap scooters.

What should have been a leisurely ride from the ship to the venue turned into three trips back and forth.   This resulted in additional money for transportation.

What the couple didn’t know was that the money they paid for the scooter rental and their transporting was wasted. The venue had a no scooter rule due to width of paths.

What the Bride didn’t know was how to get into a wedding dress, and no you do not put it over the head if you just spent two hours getting your hair done.

What the Bride didn’t know was that packing a Brooch bouquet in your suitcase would break it apart.  It was too late to order fresh flowers.

What the groom didn’t know was that being the last person to arrive would set the ceremony back even more, waiting for him to get dressed.

What the couple didn’t know was that if you give Uncle Joe a video camera, he is going to use it, even if it means getting in all of the professional photographers pictures.  Kind of hard for even a professional photographer to shoot around him.  Which cost more?  Uncle Joe or the professional photographer?

When hiring a professional Photographer don't wast money with guest in the pictures.

What the couple didn’t know was that when hiring vendors for an one hour wedding, the ceremony length has to be discussed with Aunt Jane who is officiating it.  Otherwise it will run on and on and on.

What the couple didn’t know was when the ceremony is stopped in the middle, so that an attendant can retrieve forgotten rings, it just adds more time to the vendors already overtime clock.

What the couple didn’t know was that all the times the professional photographer was delayed so that guest could take pictures cost them money and lost pictures.

What the couple didn’t know was that all the delays and miscommunication would cost them in overtime they had to pay to vendors.

What the couple didn’t know was that when planning a destination wedding outside of the U.S. there is sometimes cultural difference in business and vendors.

What the couple didn’t know was that it would have been more enjoyable, less stressful and less costly to have a Wedding planner.

They know it now.

How to write your wedding vows. Oct 02

As a wedding Officiate I get asked all sort of questions by  bridal couples in regards to their ceremony.  However the top question asked is how do I write my vows?   What should I say?    How do I start?

While the speaking of vows are an important part of the ceremony it is really the most effortless part to create because it comes from the heart.

I tell my couples to think of the vows as a promise to each other.  What do you promise to bring into this relationship? What drew you to your spouse to be?  What do you think is important to your future spouse, in which you want to confirm ,with a promise that you are going to full fill in this marriage?

Because that really is what vows are, a confirmation of your love and  support.

They are a declaration of Intention, below is prelude that I  use right before the  couple recite  their vows to each other.

Before the exchange of Vows.

The vows through which you will accept each other as husband and wife have no hidden power within them. Only to the extent that they express in words your continuing intention and commitment do they have meaning. And in a world where the pressures pushing people apart will sometimes feel stronger than those drawing people together, your commitment to one another will need to be creatively re-expressed in many different ways in the coming days and years.  The expression in today’s vows is an important and visible milestone in your journey together.

Speak from your heart but sometimes expressing oneself is a challenge .  If that is the case then do some research and find a poem or verse that  fits what your heart is feeling.   It might take a bit of energy and time but its worth it.

Do I need to plan a destination wedding? Jul 12

Well,  truth be told , we at Beach Weddings By Deb  have planned weddings for couples in two days. Especially elopements. Now, I am not advocating that everyone procrastinate planning their wedding but it can be done in a short amount of time  with or without all of the frills. Providing the frills you want are available the day of your celebration.
But if you don’t want to take the risk of having your dream weddings location taken or the special cake maker available.  The safest bet is to start making plans for your wedding, the  day you make reservations. Whether they be cruise ship or Air, Villa or hotel. Then you will be certain your wedding day will be  picture perfect.
If you are just starting the process, get a note book and jot down notes of all the vendors you have interviewed or talked with, file  notes , emails and  copy of the of the website  address  all together  in a folder.
Then when you have made your decision,  throw the unwanted ones away.
Now this may seem like a no brainier, but you would be surprised,  how after a few clicks of mouse, the packages, websites, and locations all seem to blend together.  Who said what and which location promised to be your dream maker all seem to be in  a swirling cloud out in the land of the Internet.
It also saves time, both yours and the vendors you are visiting. As soon as you get an email or phone call regarding your wedding, file it with the proper vendor’s information.  Keep your copy of the contract with your file and don’t forget it the day of the wedding.
Remember that with any Wedding Coordinator or venue you need to have a contract. A contract protects both the client and the vendor. The contract should also address what happens if you cannot make to your wedding or it has to be canceled.  I cannot think of any reason that you would not have to sign a contract for services rendered. So if your Wedding Coordinator does not send a contract beware. But to avoid any problems and to save time and have a dream wedding just contact us at beachweddingsbydeb.com Call or email me at Deb@beachweddingsbydeb.com we have doing weddings and officiating at wedding for the past twenty years.
