My Perfect wedding day Apr 14

Like a shoe repair man whose kids were running around barefoot or the car mechanic whose car is broken. I was the wedding planner who was getting married and fielding questions from friends and relatives of where, when and how are you going to do it?

My then fiancé Gary Felton, who is a photographer would laugh and say “ We are going to stand in front of a mirror, Deb will read the vows and I will take pictures”.  Not.

Although I loved planning other peoples wedding, I never had visions of my own.   I would incorporate a lot of my advice and visions to bridal couples planning their special day.  Never the urge or thought of being married or even thinking of doing it myself.   At age of 59 I was pretty comfortable in my life.   Life was good.

Little did I know that my friend, my buddy, my business associate had other ideas.  Long story Short we fell in love.

Suddenly I was scoping out dresses, flowers, cakes and invitations.  I was becoming a bride.

Being a bride on an island has the challenge of picking out a dress over the web.   Each time I picked up a package at the post office, the clerks chuckled and shook their head.  “Another one?” or “Maybe this time?” followed me out the door. After 4 tries the 5th one was the charm.

Now came  picking the location for the ceremony and reception.

My family, flying in from MN, would be staying at the Emerald Beach Resort.   A long time favorite of theirs.  Located right on a beautiful beach with swimming pool, restaurant and bar it offered them a welcome back feeling each year they visited.

Gary and I were just starting a business relationship with the Emerald Beach Resort.   It didn’t take long for me to determine that this would be the perfect time to really feel a bride’s perspective of getting married at that location.   Would it match the beauty of Megans Beach with toes in the sand or the connivance of a Marriott Frenchman’s Reef with the restaurants on the same grounds?

Would the pricing match the ambiance of a perfect wedding day?

My business sense was tingling but my bride sense was reasoning.  I wanted a perfect wedding day.

My honey was telling me, it was my decision.  Deciding factor, was an all inclusive ceremony and reception at the same location, meant no transportation necessary for all involved.

The option of getting dressed and walking from hotel room right onto the beach and wedding ceremony really clinched it for me.

The ceremony was scheduled to begin at 5:30 P.M.  Timing was important because beach visitors generally started leaving the beach about 4:30.  At 5:00 we were provided a deserted beach, with the promise of a beautiful sunset.

Family and friends gathered at the beach bar until just before the ceremony.

When at 5:30 p.m.  The Minister and Groom appeared ready.  All guests were then escorted to the designated ceremony location on the beach.

The ceremony went off as planned, sand, surf, blue sky, family and friends it was beautiful and went off without a hitch (no pun intended).

The reception followed with a sit down buffet of chicken, Baby back ribs, fish and several side dishes.

Wedding cake and toasts.

Guest enjoyed an open bar and we enjoyed our guest.  It was fun, exciting and it was perfect.

Life just got a whole lot better.

What time of year is best for a wedding? Mar 25

Its spring and love is in the air.  The birds return to nest, the trees leaf out, and the ice cream truck once again starts its neighborhood visits.

It is also the time of year that bridal couples start making plans for weddings.  In certain parts of the hemisphere it is much more pleasant to have a spring, summer or even autumn wedding.   No one wants to contend with snow, sleet, mud and slush.  Especially on the happiest day of their life.

That is where we have it so nice here with the beach wedding in the Virgin Islands.  What can I say after 10 years here I love it.

I love being a wedding planner and wedding officiate it just is so much fun to help couples start a new beginning.   I love not having to worry about the weather for a wedding.

The temperature varies about 10 degrees from winter to summer. Enough to let you know when summer is in session.

We, just like in the main land, celebrate the change of seasons, birds returning from the south, whales swimming past us on their way north, trees blooming buds for new mangos and iguanas getting all lovey with each other.

This brings me to the topic of this blog.  Brides do not limit your wedding plans to spring, summer or autum.   Winter here in the U.S Virgin islands is a great time to celebrate you wedding.

Guest enjoy the warm sun, they love the break for all of cold and snow or ice.

Christmas down here is one of my favorite times of year to have a wedding.

Cruises are abundant with stops in St.Thomas long enough for you and guest to enjoy the whole day of celebrating your wedding.  Not only will you get the clear blue clear sky, turquoise water and warm sun but you will also enjoy the holiday season by experiencing it in a different culture and custom.

We still decorate as you all do up north.  One look at the town square in St. Thomas from last holiday season says it all. The festival of lights is just as bright and beautiful as in the states if not more so.

Making for a great season to get married and have a happy holiday .

Add style to your St. Thomas beach wedding Dec 10

As a wedding planner in the Virgin Islands, I noticed my brides wearing ornaments on their feet that complimented their wedding dress. Always on the prowl for anything that would be of interest to brides getting married or having a St. Thomas Wedding I did some research on a vendor recommend to me by a couple of my brides.

The following vendor information comes from Veronica the owner of A Bidda Bling.

Veronica’s company designs and creates custom made Barefoot Sandals.

I have to agree that these Barefoot Sandals are a “must have” for beach brides having a St. John wedding or St. Thomas destination wedding brides or anyone that wants the added touch of glamour.

Beach Brides can’t wear heels in the sand it just doesn’t work, and flip flops besides kicking up sand tend to feel a bit shabby.

By Putting on a pair of Barefoot Sandals and you have a classy and stylish adornment on your feet to compliment your look.

Now I have to caution that these are not really sandals but jewelry for your feet.

Basically you are barefoot.

But they are also wonderful for any bride who wishes to kick off her shoes at the reception and dance the night away… just slip on a pair of comfortable Barefoot Sandals and you will look sexy and stylish all night long!

They are designed with strong elastic cord for a great fit and comfort. Many different designs are available using faux pearls and crystals.

Customizable to compliment your wedding and bridesmaid’s dresses. Barefoot Sandals are available utilizing natural shells.

A Bidda Bling also make a line of casual Barefoot Sandals that are perfect for your honeymoon with many color combinations available to match your bathing suit for beach wear or pool wear.

These Barefoot Sandals can be worn with or without traditional sandals so you can “bling up” your look!

Take a look at their website at http://www.abiddabling.com to see the styles that are currently available.

If there is something that you don’t see, just send Veronica an email at Abiddabling@gmail.com with your desires and she will work with you to create anything you can dream up!

Oh yea, by the way  they have a special going on… just pay the shipping for one pair and the rest ship for free!

After you have tried them let me know what you think.

Do I need to plan a destination wedding? Jul 12

Well,  truth be told , we at Beach Weddings By Deb  have planned weddings for couples in two days. Especially elopements. Now, I am not advocating that everyone procrastinate planning their wedding but it can be done in a short amount of time  with or without all of the frills. Providing the frills you want are available the day of your celebration.
But if you don’t want to take the risk of having your dream weddings location taken or the special cake maker available.  The safest bet is to start making plans for your wedding, the  day you make reservations. Whether they be cruise ship or Air, Villa or hotel. Then you will be certain your wedding day will be  picture perfect.
If you are just starting the process, get a note book and jot down notes of all the vendors you have interviewed or talked with, file  notes , emails and  copy of the of the website  address  all together  in a folder.
Then when you have made your decision,  throw the unwanted ones away.
Now this may seem like a no brainier, but you would be surprised,  how after a few clicks of mouse, the packages, websites, and locations all seem to blend together.  Who said what and which location promised to be your dream maker all seem to be in  a swirling cloud out in the land of the Internet.
It also saves time, both yours and the vendors you are visiting. As soon as you get an email or phone call regarding your wedding, file it with the proper vendor’s information.  Keep your copy of the contract with your file and don’t forget it the day of the wedding.
Remember that with any Wedding Coordinator or venue you need to have a contract. A contract protects both the client and the vendor. The contract should also address what happens if you cannot make to your wedding or it has to be canceled.  I cannot think of any reason that you would not have to sign a contract for services rendered. So if your Wedding Coordinator does not send a contract beware. But to avoid any problems and to save time and have a dream wedding just contact us at beachweddingsbydeb.com Call or email me at Deb@beachweddingsbydeb.com we have doing weddings and officiating at wedding for the past twenty years.
